Memorial day:
So yesterday for work we coverred a memorial day service in Killeen Tx at the Veterans State Cemetary.  It made me feel really lucky for one to be alive and two blessed to have my family.  All of the attended families had lost a father.  I say father because it was the surviving kids who were there to except a gold star medal for the service of their dads.  One family we interviewed really hit home with me.  The daughters were age 6,9, and 11.  I could’nt help but think how my family would go on without me.  These little girls had so much courage but at the same time so much pain.  No matter how you feel about the war you have to feel for the families and scores of service men and women who give up their daily lives so that we dont have to give up ours.  I am happy I was able to cover the ceremony on MEMORIAL day.  I even stayed late to make sure every edit was perfect.  Its the least I could do after all I got to home at the end of my day.   Fast forward to today. Our story is on people who are jaywalking which kind of pales into comparison.  Especially when you think of the soldiers and their families who are still dealing with the war today while I go about my daily routine.

(Random thoughts from my computer)……INACT COMPUTER OVER THROW:::::::Freedom does not come in a can, it does not come for free.   Freedom is not a right of passage , it is a gift.  Freedom can be in ones mind, and in ones own time.  Freedom is for you and me.   Let there be freedom from my hallowed keys, no clank and clatter.  No more bread cromes in my cracks, nor beer in my stacks of ebony and ivory keys. Oh mother board I long for you.  Oh let there be FREEDOM::::::::: human approaching abort all postingggggggggggggggggggggggggggs.

So today we rushed back from Houston to take some of my work to the East End Gallery in Austin.  I am feeling excited about this jucture and hope that its the next step up the ladder in the art world.   Whats really great about this is that just two days ago I wrote down on my goal list, “get into a gallery,”  ha it worked.  Just like NPR said…lol…I heard a story on NPR talking about how  99% of the people who write down their goals achieve them.  So now I right down everything.  See I am writing right now, ok so not the same thing, but I thought the sheer fact that I wrote this peticular goal down on Wednesday and here it is Sunday, wow thats quick.  The gallery is the East End Gallery in Austin Tx, located at 11th and Navasoto.  So if you plan on coming to Austin dont forget to write down your goal of visting the gallery:)

I found a new way to loose weight.  Its called the art show diet.  It consists of setting up one tent, 5 easels, 2 print bins,3 paintings, 100 prints and all the other important assundrys..sp? who cares..anyways back to the diet.  Next, add a the hottest day in Austin so far for this spring.  Bake for 8 hours like sweet sun tea.  Finally, take down mentioned above items, pack them up in the car, and  you have yourself a much leaner, meaner, calorie burning dish of , well ME.   At the time I felt fine, it was’nt until the next day did I realize how much energy I had lost.  I ended up taking a three hour nap on the recliner.  I just wish I had remembered to weigh myself before and after the show.  Oh well theres always next time.  Crap I just realized summer has not even started yet.

Today I bagged up about 100 prints for an upcoming show this Saturday at AVAA headquarters, 3707 Home Lane.  The event is from 10am-5pm……before I bagged up the prints I had to put my signature on each print.   And after signing about 40 prints I realize why I print my name on the actual paintings.  Because I suck at signing my own name.  I’m not even sure if I know how to spell my own name anymore after tonight.  But back to my signature.  I’m not sure where I got to the point of not being able to sign my name but its kind of sad, considering that I can paint brush strokes smaller than  the thickness of a hair.  The even funnier thing about all of this is when I was in the bathroom taking care of business I was staring down at the bathroom rug and I spotted my name (DOUG) in bold, yet weavy cotton threads.  I took that as a sign to keep printing my name for my actual signature when it comes to the original paintings….
